22.01.09 - what the hell happened to 2008?

It's been ages since an update and I'm sorry. I'm not exactly certain what happened but I'm guessing that it had to do with aliens or the space time continuum. Anywho, onward to 2009!

Very exciting news... we have floor! I'm totally in love with it and can't believe the difference it has made. Check out the before and after...

It was especially nice to have the floor in time for Christmas celebrating. Too bad that it was so close to Yuletide and we had to squish all of the xmas goodness into 2 weeks. Ah well, once the garland and likewise was up it was a wonderland :)

D is fantastic. He won the principal's award at his school a second time, this time for caring. What a great kid. He did very at xmas and is mastering the drums his nanna bought for him. His favourite band at the mo' is KISS, and he's obsessed with hockey and wrestling and he's gone ice skating for the very first time. All is right with the world.

Paul is pretty great too (though getting over a nasty cold). It's back to the same old' now that the harvest is complete. I kinda like having the big guy around so it's nice that things are back to 'normal'. We've even managed a couple of grown up nights out over the past few weeks... *sigh* I miss those sometimes.

I'm fine and dandy. I've complied a list of creative things I'd like to do in 2009. I don't think I'll get to all of them but it's nice to have something to challenge yourself with. You'll notice that there are several items on here that are things that have been sitting around unfinished for ages. I hate the way they glare at me when I walk past them :) Anywho I think I'll post it somewhere and cross stuff off as it gets done and post links to photos of the completed projects.

20.11.08 - it's been crazy busy here... nothing new there

It has snowed yesterday, which made me stupidly happy, but today has been a really icky day.

The Photovoice show was this evening and the turnout was pretty good. We didn't exactly get off to a great start this morning but things seemed to move more smoothly as the day wore on. The main issue was the walls... there were none. How in gods name do you have an exhibit without wall space? Anyway of the photos got up, people came out, and that's what matters.

I got the most amazing package in the mail this week. It was filled with the most wonderfully magical Christmas goodness that I can hardly believe it's mine! I'm certain that all the goodies will amongst my most favourite Christmas things this year. Wheee! To see all the pieces check out this page

I'm tired, and annoyed but there is something making me very happy at the moment... NEW FLOORS! Wheee! I'm so excited I can't even begin to tell you. I've been waiting for new floors upstairs since we moved in and they are actually getting done! Bonus, they might even be done for Christmas. Hurrah! Never in my life did I expect to get so excited about flooring.

Sooo, because I'm feeling a bit of a grump (why are people actually trying to make me grumpy?) I'll think of a few things that I adore to even things out... my kiddo, monster jam, warm socks from the drier, new socks, Lauren Bacall, Sophia Lauren, snow, warm blankets, deep sleep, fabric crowns, silly jokes, camping, good hair days, great movies, new episodes of True Blood or Dexter, laughing out loud, friends, feasting, crafting, craftster, good women, swell fellas, finishing things, being on time, taking the high road, being even, trying, making, tickling, loving, a good story. Yeah, I feel a bit better.

One last thing... so I'm walking D home from school the other day and he asks if he can have a quilt for Christmas. I'm totally at a loss. "A quilt? Like a blanket for your bed?" "No!" he says "A quilt, like the bagpipers wear!"

27.10.08 - so a girl walks into a shoe store

I bought a pair of boots last week and I really loved them but when I tried them on in my office I decided they looked funny and that I'd very likely fall over in them because they didn't quite fit right. They sat under my desk for four days until this morning when I tried to exchange them. The woman in the store said that I had worn the shoes and was doing her damndest to get out of exchanging them. After about five minutes of arguing back and forth (I did not wear those shoes... oh yes you did, oh no I did not...) I finally said "Look, I will happily stand in your store and argue with you for as long as it takes. I have all day." She huffed a heavy huff and said "Go find another pair." One small victory.

I'm usually a pushover. I'll get bullied by some mean ole salesperson, put up with the abuse, and then go home and bitch so I'm pretty pleased with the turn of events today... to bad the rest of the day was shite.

I refuse to be complainy though so here's some good stuff....

Here's D in his Halloweeny costume. I'm so glad that I made it a month ago. I'd be in tears if I had to sew it up this week.

Here's some of my latest crafty work. I've signed up for my second creepy doll swap and so have been inspired to make loads of really horrible things :) I've turned to old medieval woodcuts and historical images of mythical creatures for inspiration. Truly horrible stuff that... it's great!

I'm also trying my hand at shrunken heads... just 'cause they're cool.

20.10.08 - hand sniffing and other fun stuff

We're at a pub last night, and they are nice enough to have a kids menu that wee ones can colour on. Dante decides that he is finished but clearly the jester in the top corner has not been scribbled upon. When questioned about his unfinished work D says the following...

"That's how he's supposed to be. That's how the king wants him to dress. It's a special all white jester costume. His name is Whitey."

Whitey?

Yeah.

Being a parent can be pretty funny at times. I find myself saying some pretty crazy stuff... things I'd never in a millions years imagine saying.

"You can't take that in the bathtub, it might poke you in the bits."

"Why is there pee on the outside of the shower curtain?"

"You can play with your bits as much as you like but please don't do it in the living room."

"For the love of god stop smelling your hands."

Dante has acquired this new habit of sniffing his hands. All the time. I asked him why he does it and he says 'because I like it'. How can you argue with that? Christ, if that's the worst quirk he's got I'll deal with it.

So, Thanksgiving has come and gone. I hate that damned holiday. I don't get it. I am thankful for all that I have... truly! I just don't get the turkey and family thing. It's always been the dumbest of holidays in my mind. You don't even DO anything. Anyway, we went to my mum's for dinner and on the way home we saw the most amazing tranny hooker ever! It was like something off of an episode of CSI. Well, Paul and I were in awe and went on and on about 'the tranny hooker' and how the street hookers in our town are usually pretty frightening... not done to the nines like this 'working gal' with the ruby red go-go boots. Then from the back seat I hear a voice asking "Mom. what's a tranny hooker?" Damn it! "Ahh, a tranny hooker is a boy who likes to dress like a girl, who men pay to spend time with." How in the hell do you answer that question?!

That's it for tonight. I'm off to some crafting for a quirky winter holiday swap... even the baby Jesus isn't safe :) I'm also settling in for some quality tv time. Little Britain USA, though it's not nearly as good as the Brit version, has it's moments... like when Paul Rudd guest starred and is the same screen space as my beloved David Walliams. Dexter, which I haven't found nearly as wonderful as the other two seasons however the last few moments of every episode so far have had me doing a giddy little dance in my seat. Lastly, my new fave True Blood... lusty vampire white trash thrills... what could be better?
