First things first. Dante is awesome. Today he got the "Principal's Award" from school for demonstrating the values that are important to his school community. Dante got his award for helping with the littler students in his class. We're very proud of him and know he's a very good boy... most of the time :)
My magnificent mask that I swapped for my Dexter painting arrived and I love him to bits! I can't wait for Paul to get working on my shrine so that I can house all of lovely odd bits and bobs in one place of honour. It's truly magnificent and when I get a moment of glorious sunshine I'll take pics of him to show off.
My aunt, uncle and grannie spent the weekend with us. It went pretty well except that my uncle felt a bit unwell and I was a wreak on Sunday. I actually spent most of the day in bed asleep. Paul was a godsend and took D out for the afternoon and let me snooze... what a guy.
Oh! And I can finally show off some of what I made since some of my swap partners have received. I signed up for a creepy mini doll swap and made these wee gals for my partners. I'm well pleased with them and am planning on doing several more dolls. I really don't think that they are that creepy but I suppose that there are a fair share of people, my grannie being one of the most vocal ones, that find my work far from 'nice'. Ah well, what does she know? She watches Murder She Wrote for god sake.

The harvest is officially under way and poor Paul is stolen away from us. Although they sometimes fight like cats and dogs they are usually bestest buddies and I think that the decrease in quality time that Paul spends with D (which is a fair bit of time) will be particularly hard on both of them this year. Looks like I'll have to dig out my sneakers and play some hoops with the wee fella... god I hate sports.
I'm not really obsessing about anything lately. Too busy for that I suppose. I read Twilight and fully expected to fall into it's trap but nothing of the sort happened. I enjoyed the whole vampireness of it all but it wasn't as great as I was expecting. That said, very few books live up to the expectations I have of them. TV wise I've been watching True Blood which I love. I saw the first episode of season 3 of Dexter which was so-so until the very last line of dialogue... which was awesomeness! I also saw the first installment of Little Britain USA. I'm not sure what to make of it just yet. There was a sketch with Rosie O'Donnel which was great but there seemed to be something lacking... I'm not exactly sure what. I'll give it time before making up me mind.
I'm sure I'm missing tons but my mind is all gummed up after a few days of sickiness. It'll all come back to me.
Okay, I haven't posted in a while but it's because I'm not really obsessing about anything at the moment and although I've had a mad flurry of creative activity over the past few weeks it's all on the hush hush so I can't post anything! Never fear... the recipients of my crafty madness will soon receive their goodies and I will once again be able to show off my wares.
I'm fairly certain that the number of posts will increase over the next few months as the harvest is already upon us and I'll be miserable and alone. I don't think that many people really understand just how hard a winemakers job is and the sacrifices they make during this time of year. Paul will be out the door before Dante wakes and home after he's in bed for approximately 2 - 3 months. It's not all snobbery and sipping.
Hmm. What can I post? I've swapped my Dexter painting for an art mask that demanded to come to my house. I saw him a while ago and the artist that made it offered to swap him for my Dexter bowling portrait. Since Dex didn't really have anywhere to hang in my house, and I love. love, love the wee mask I thought it was a great deal. I can't wait till he comes! I'm planning on creating a shrine in my hallway and put him in there with some other favourite items.
D is finally back at school and already replies "I dunno" or "nothin'" when I ask how his day was or what he did... little bugger.
Well, that's about all I can handle today. I'm plumb beat and ready to hit the hay shortly.
I have to get this off my chest. People really drive me crazy when riding the city bus. It makes me mental when people sneak or bud in front of others to get on the bus sooner. You want to get on sooner? Get to the stop earlier. I don't care if you're old! That's no excuse for being rude. OR, when people pull the stop bell even though someone else has already done it. They pull and pull because they don't hear a 'ding' but there's a big friggin' red light up sign that says the bell has already been pulled for Christ sake! OR when people sit in the aisle seat rather than the window seat so that people are less likely to sit beside them. OR when people put their bag beside them so that you have ask them to move it so that a human being can use the seat rather than their ratty ass purse. OR when people talk super loud on their cell phones about things that are best left for a more private environment. OR when people turn their personal listening devices up so loud that I can hear it half a bus length away. OR when I'm reading a book and someone tries to strike up a conversation. One reason I always carry a book is so I don't have to talk to others. OR when someone bitches and moans about the wait time for the bus only to get off three stops later. Sometimes I hate the bus.
Now I know you may think poorly of me because I mentioned that old people shouldn't bud in (which they do all the effin' time!), you may even think that I don't like those old folks but there are some pretty cool elderly mo-fo's out there. Leonard Cohen is just about the coolest person on the planet. I am beyond giddy that Cloris Leachman will show those youngin's what's for on Dancing With the Stars. Lauren Bacall is kick ass. Sophia Lauren is who I want to be when I grow up. See, I loves the oldies.
Okay, so what's new with us?
Paul has done an awesome job on tearing down that ugly effin wall. He keeps saying "I'm not happy with this this part" and pointing to some imaginary flaw. I told him (and take heed because I totally mean it) that if someone was coming to dinner at my house and noticed a minor imperfection on my wall rather than being fully focused on the feast I set before them they would immediately be ejected from my house.
Paul has been a very busy feller indeed because he did a crap load of canning this past weekend. Pickles, chutney, jelly, salsa... christ, I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but it was madness and he was a friggin grump. Good thing that boy can cook.
Dante has had his last swim lesson and has graduated from Salamander to Sunfish status. He LOVES swimming. Seriously. His face has a permigrin from the time he sets foot in the pool area until he comes out. His mouth also goes non-stop which puts to rest any concerns I had about him being a shy one. Nope. Apparently he doesn't shut up.

My little boy also proved to be quite the soccer superstar during his last two games. Let's just say that D's team was made up of the littlest players. Basically, we were a band of mostly four year olds playing against evil giant children that were almost seven... practically teenagers if you ask me. Anywho, the poor bunch didn't win a single game all season... but kicked ass during the last game and finally WON! Whee! Dante managed 3 goals the last game and two the second last one. He was a total rockstar and Paul was just about as pleased as can be. We told him the usual "So long as you had fun, tried your best, and worked well with your team mates, we're proud of you." When D wasn't looking we exchanged high-fives and did proud parent dances before buying him stuff and plying him with treats.
Dante was asking if we were going to Ireland when we go on vacation next year. Here is how our conversation proceeded:
Me: Yep! We'll go to England and then to Ireland and visit all your cousins and aunties.
D: Good, because I'm going to get an apricot.
Me: An apricot?
D: Yeah, one of those little green guys.
Me: Oh! You mean a leprechaun!
D: Yeah, one of those. I'm going to pack a net so I can catch one.
Ha! He'll never forgive us if we don't make it over. We'll have to start saving more pennies!
